House Rules
A few friendly guidelines to keep everyone comfy, safe and happy
DAMAGE POLICIES
DAMAGE OR MISSING ITEMS
Every now and then, accidents happen – we get it. But if anything goes missing or gets a bit bashed (furniture, artwork, kettles, you name it), we may need to charge to put things right. We’ll always be fair, and if we can fix it ourselves, we will.
If something’s not quite right when you arrive, just give us a shout so we can sort it straight away.
AFTER CHECK-OUT SURPRISES
If we discover any major mess or damage after you’ve gone, we may need to add a cleaning or repair charge (usually £150). This just helps us get the room ready for the next lovely guests.
BEDDING & MATTRESSES
If bedding or mattresses end up with stains or spills that need replacing, we may need to charge for those too (from £150). A gentle reminder that makeup, body oils and the odd splash of takeaway curry can leave their mark – maybe use that towel barrier if in doubt!
FIRE SAFETY
Please don’t tamper with alarms, extinguishers or smoke detectors – they’re there to keep everyone safe. If something’s beeping or playing up, just let us know and we’ll fix it in a jiffy.
Tampering can lead to fines (from £200) – and we’d much rather avoid that.
GUEST POLICIES
BRINGING YOUR OWN BOOZE
You’re welcome to enjoy your own drinks in your room – but in shared spaces like the lounge or café, we kindly ask that you stick to drinks bought on-site. Our bar has some cracking local options too.
WHO CAN CHECK IN
Guests must be 18+ to check in. You’ll need photo ID (passport or driving licence) – not because we’re nosy, but for everyone’s safety and peace of mind.
CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT
Check-in from 3pm – feel free to pop in earlier and we’ll do our best if your room’s ready.
Check-out by 11am – we’d love to keep you longer, but the next guest is probably on their way.
BRINGING CHILDREN
We love little ones – they’re very welcome! Just make sure they’re supervised at all times, especially around hot drinks, other guests and any tempting decorative items.
PAYMENT & DEPOSIT
We take most cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), and a £50 deposit at check-in to cover any incidentals. Don’t worry – it’ll be refunded after your stay, as long as everything’s tickety-boo.
SPECIAL REQUESTS
Got a birthday, early check-in, extra pillows or a room with a view? Just let us know – we’ll always do our best to help. Can’t promise the moon, but we’re a resourceful lot.
WHEN WE MIGHT HAVE TO SAY NO
We rarely do this, but we reserve the right to refuse service if a guest’s behaviour puts others at risk or makes things uncomfortable. Think of it like this: if you wouldn’t do it at your gran’s house, probably best not to do it here either.
LOST & FOUND
LOST SOMETHING?
Drop us an email at reception@wainstoneshotel.co.uk – we’re pretty good at reuniting socks, phone chargers and cuddly toys with their rightful owners.
FOUND ITEMS
We’ll hold onto anything we find (excluding perishables or unmentionables) for 30 days.
After that, we’ll donate it or dispose of it.
POSTAGE
Want your item returned? Happy to help – just cover the postage plus a small handling fee (usually 25%). We’ll wrap it up nice and safe.
PARKING & SECURITY
PARKING
You’re welcome to use our on-site parking – just remember it’s at your own risk. Lock up, don’t leave valuables visible, and all should be grand.
IN-ROOM GUIDELINES
EXTRA BEDS
We’ve a few rollaway beds available at £20/night. Just let us know in advance – they’re popular, like Yorkshire puddings on a Sunday.
DO NOT DISTURB
Housekeeping pops round between 8am and 3pm. If your sign’s up, we’ll leave you in peace. Need fresh towels or anything else? Just ring down and we’ll sort you out.
CANDLES & COOKING
As much as we love a bit of ambience, for safety’s sake, we kindly ask no candles, incense, hot plates or DIY fry-ups. (The café’s got you covered if you’re peckish.)
KEEPING IT CLEAN
If anything’s not quite right in your room, just tell us and we’ll sort it sharpish. We aim to refresh rooms daily, unless you’d rather we didn’t.
TOWELS & LINEN
We’ll change sheets every third day and towels on request or if left on the floor. Want daily changes? Just ask – we’re easygoing.
SMOKING
All our rooms and indoor areas are smoke-free (including vapes). There’s a designated area outside for a puff. If anyone smokes indoors, there’ll be a £150 charge to cover deep cleaning.
GUEST NUMBERS
Rooms are set up for a certain number of guests – if you’ve got extras staying, please let us know in advance so we can get everything comfy and legal.
PEACE & QUIET
We want everyone to enjoy their stay, so no parties, loud music or late-night karaoke battles, please. If things get a bit rowdy, we’ll have a quiet word. Visitors are welcome until 11pm – after that, it’s bedtime (or bar time, if you’re booked into an event!).
ROOM KEYS
Please keep hold of your room key – it’s like your golden ticket. Lost one? No bother – just bring ID to reception and we’ll sort a replacement (£10 fee applies).
BOOKINGS & CANCELLATIONS
CANCELLATIONS
Flexible bookings: cancel up to 24 hours before arrival with no charge.
Prepaid/special rates: usually non-refundable, but worth checking with us – we’ll do what we can.
GROUPS
Got a big booking? Lovely stuff. For cancellations, we just ask for 4 weeks’ notice to avoid charges.
NO-SHOWS
If you don’t turn up and haven’t let us know, we’ll need to charge for the first night. It’s nothing personal – just helps us cover our losses.
SAFETY FIRST
FIRE SAFETY
Check your room door for exit routes and fire points. If the alarm sounds, it’s not a drill – grab your coat and follow the signs.
And that’s your lot!
If you’ve any questions, the team at reception are always happy to help – whether it’s with fresh towels, dinner plans, or finding the best local walk.
Thanks for reading – we’re proper chuffed to have you with us.
